Bengaluru: The Women's Protection wing of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police in Bengaluru has arrested two drug dealers from Visakhapatnam and seized 1,500 kg of ganja worth Rs 12 crore in the international market.

The arrested are Chandrabhan Bishnoi of Rajasthan and Lakshmi Mohan Das of Andhra Pradesh. The police have also seized a goods vehicle, which had a secret compartment for smuggling ganja.

According to the police, the prime accused in the case is an MBA graduate from Rajasthan. He would procure ganja from locals at the Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border and transport it to the southern markets, including Bengaluru.

The CCB team, in plainclothes, tracked the accused for three weeks in Visakhapatnam and arrested them. They would use fake number plates on the vehicle while in the goods carrier section there would be shipments of a popular e-commerce company.

They also hid the ganja in shipments.

This is the third arrest in the case so far. The police are on the lookout for other members of the gang. Police Commissioner B Dayananda said the CCB will continue to crack down on drug peddlers in the city.

He appealed to the public to come forward with information about drug dealers. The arrest of two drug dealers in Visakhapatnam with 1,500 kg of ganja is a reminder of the rising problem of ganja smuggling in Bengaluru. In recent months, there have been several cases of ganja being seized in the city.

The police believe that the demand for ganja is rising in Bengaluru, especially among the youth. This is due to the easy availability of the drug and the low prices.

The police appeal to the public to come forward with information about drug dealers. They can do so by calling the CCB helpline number 080-2222 2222.
