Bengaluru: A rehabilitation centre here is under fire after several of its staff members were accused of assaulting a patient.
As per the filed complaint, the patient identified as Praveen, was seeking treatment for alcohol addiction when he was allegedly subjected to a brutal attack.
The assault left him with a loss of control over his arms and legs, and he was hospitalised for two days. In their complaint, Praveen's family have levelled allegations against a few staff members of the rehabilitation centre having subjected him to “continuous” assault over a span of three days.
The complaint alleges that the staff members beat Praveen, choked him, and deprived him of food and water. The incident has shed light on the crucial importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of those seeking treatment for addiction.
Rehabilitation centres should be places of support, compassion and professional care. It is essential that these facilities uphold and adhere to strict professional standards to protect the physical and mental health of their patients.
