Bengaluru: A BTech student died after falling from an eighth-floor-building in his college campus in the city. It is alleged that the student committed suicide after he was caught using a mobile phone during the examination on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Aditya Prabhu, 19, a second semester student of PES University in Banashankari. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru South, Krishnakanth inspected the spot after the incident.

"Preliminary investigations have revealed that Aditya was caught using a mobile phone during an exam around 11:30 am by a college lecturer. The management confiscated his phone and took him for a counselling session," the DCP told News Trail.

According to sources, the management informed Aditya's parents about this.

However, within minutes, the management were shocked to hear that Aditya had jumped from an adjacent building in the campus. It is alleged that the student was unable to cope with the embarrassment and decided to take the extreme step.

The body was sent to a government hospital in the city. The Girinagar police visited the spot and have procured CCTV footage from around the campus during the inspection.

A case has been registered. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru South, Krishnakanth, said the body will be handed over to the family after a post-mortem.
