Ejipura flyover pillars repurposed as lamp posts
NT Correspondent
Bengaluru: The construction of the Ejipura flyover here has been suspended for the past two years, and it has become a subject of mockery online. Recently, a picture depicting a flyover pillar being used as a lamp post gained popularity on Twitter.
This led Internet users to question the true purpose of the flyover pillar. The image displayed street lamps installed on the pillars of the unfinished flyover.
Arnav Gupta, a Twitter user, shared the picture accompanied by the caption, "Since the flyover will never be built, we are using the pillars as lamp posts now."
People reacted sarcastically to Arnav's post. One user joked that lamp posts were now fulfilling the role of “cable supports, and the cable supports were being used as walkways, which in turn were being turned into roads.
Another netizen amusingly suggested that a restaurant may as well be built on top of the pillar. Transport Minister Ramanlinga Reddy, who is also the MLA representing the constituency where the flyover is located, recently stated that the construction would be completed within a year.
The construction of the flyover commenced in 2017 but was halted two years ago, with only 42 per cent of the bridge completed.
The project has been on hold for two years as the BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) is seeking new contractors through tendering to finish the project within a budget of Rs 148 crore.
