
Plan to investigate BJP-era works sends shivers down spines of BBMP officials, contractors

Bengaluru: The Congress government has decided to conduct an investigation into the irregularities in solid waste management, construction and maintenance of royal canals and roads under the BBMP from 2019-20 to 2022-23.
It intends to form investigation committees in this context. In one such case, Rs 118 crore worth works in Rajarajeshwari Nagar area were passed just as the Congress party was assuming power. Eight officers were suspended from service on June 14 in connection with the irregularity.
In the case, the bill was paid although the works were not executed. Now it has been decided to investigate the implementation, quality and bill payment of the works done in all the departments of the Corporation.
According to the instructions of Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who is also the Bengaluru Development Minister, inquiry committees are being constituted and the official order will be issued soon.
This has sent shivers down the spines of corrupt officials and contractors. It has been clarified that an investigation is being conducted due to the fact that illegalities have been committed in solid waste management, implementation of projects, construction of state canals, maintenance and construction of roads and maintenance works as well from the complaints of the public.
The BJP government had also constituted committees to investigate white-topping and other works implemented during the tenure of 2013 to 2018 and received a report. Now, the Congress government is ready to give back to the BJP.
In this context, from 2019-20 to 2022-23, DCM DK Shivakumar has constituted four committees to thoroughly review and report on pre-tender and post-tender processes, bill payment, quality of work, implementation of all the works undertaken under Amrita City Development Grant, State, Central governments and Corporation grants, Shivakumar is said to have ordered.
