Bengaluru: The Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths probing a terror module in the city, claimed to have recovered four hand-grenades from one of the arrested suspects, Joint Commissioner of Police, CCB, Dr Sharanappa S Dhage said on Thursday.
Following a raid on Wednesday, the CCB officials arrested Sohail, Umar, Zahed, Mudassir and Faisal from a house in Sultanpalya here. The police had recovered seven countrymade pistols and 45 live bullets during the arrest of the five suspects.
The senior CCB official said that during an interrogation, one of the suspects, Zahed Tabrez, 25, revealed that he had hidden a suspicious packet at his house in Kodigehalli Police Station limits following which a team of CCB officials along with FSL experts were sent to his house.
"The team of cops recovered and seized four handgrenades hidden inside a locker of an almirah at his residence," the Joint Commissioner said.
It is suspected that Zahed allegedly got them from another suspect, Junaid, who is absconding and holed up abroad, through someone.
The grenades have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory in Madiwala to ascertain whether they are live ones.
He is being framed: Zahid's family
The family of the suspect, Zahed, has denied the allegations and said that he is being framed unlawfully. The family said that Zahed was earlier in contact with Junaid, but after the 2017 murder incident, he had cut ties with him.
They also said that they did not know how the grenades were found inside their house. However the CCB claims it has credible information about the five accused being involved in suspicious activities and a further probe is underway.
The cops are currently on the lookout for the person who supplied firearms and ammunition to the accused.
