Shakti's Smart Cards issued, BMTC contemplates similar cards for all travellers

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government is gearing up to distribute 'Shakti' smart cards for women, enabling them to travel free in non-premium government buses.

In response to the significant increase in passenger numbers since the introduction of the 'Shakti' scheme on June 11, Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is considering the implementation of smart cards for all travellers, similar to the ones used by Bengaluru Metro.

The decision to implement smart cards is driven by the challenges faced by bus conductors in issuing tickets efficiently amidst the surge in commuters.

By adopting a smart card system, BMTC aims to streamline the ticketing process, making it more convenient for passengers to travel on their buses.

With the success of the 'Shakti' scheme, the distribution of these smart cards is expected to further facilitate hassle-free travel for both women and other passengers on nonpremium government buses in Karnataka.
