Plan ahead to avoid rain-related mishaps, DKS tells officers

Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Wednesday asked officials in all districts to make adequate preparations for excessive rainfall and the damage that it may bring with it.
He made the comments during a video conference in which CM Siddaramaiah and other ministers took part.
“You will get the weather forecast from the weather department beforehand in any case. Utilise those reports and create awareness about them by way of the media. You should tell them that it is going to rain this much on this give day and advise them to not leave their homes through the media. Then disasters can be avoided,” Shivakumar said.
“Take precautionary measures. Avoid catastrophes. Relating disasters after they have happened doesn’t constitute a solution,” he added.
However, the Deputy CM didn’t specify as to how private sector employees would manage not leaving their homes if they weren’t allowed to work from home.
Shivakumar also advised officers to make their offices comfortable and “homelike” to deliver in an optimal manner. He also asked officers to not leave their respective districts since that would hinder their ability to reach the spot if a natural disaster like flood or landslides occur.
The DCM expressed sympathy with denizens of coastal Karnataka since they have been on the receiving end of the worst of rain damage, besides economic hardship.
