Woman held for theft from friend’s house

Bengaluru: The JJ Nagar police have arrested a 26-year-old woman for stealing Rs 11 lakh worth gold ornaments from her friend’s house.

The accused had come to invite the victim for her brother’s wedding. She then claimed that she needed to use the room as she was having her monthly periods. The victim allowed her to use the bedroom. After locking the room doors from inside, the accused stole the ornaments which were in the almirah.

The police have identified the accused as Azara Siddiqa, a resident of DJ Halli. She had committed the theft at the residence of her friend Roohinaaz, 23, at 6th cross in Padarayanapura.

The incident happened on Tuesday between 3.35 pm to 8.30 pm. The victim had filed a complaint on Wednesday evening at around 5.30 pm.

The accused had gone to the victim’s house on Tuesday afternoon. After inviting for the wedding and also using the room, the accused left at around 8.45 pm after having dinner.

The theft came to light around 11 pm, when the victim opened the almirah to keep a perfume bottle. The accused had stolen six different types of gold ornaments, including two necklaces. She then filed a complaint suspecting the involvement of her close friend.

After committing the theft, the accused had kept it inside a water tank of her neighbour’s house. Even the family members of the accused were also aware of the theft. After the police picked her up for questioning, she initially claimed innocence. When she was cross examined through scientific proof, she confessed to the crime.
