Kundapur: A week after a young man from Bhadravati fell into the Arishinagundi waterfalls, his body was found wedged underneath rocks 200 metres below the accident site on Sunday.
Around 3 pm on July 23, Sharath Kumar, 23, from Bhadravati fell into the waterfalls while posing for an Instagram reel.
It is said that he had visited the place for sightseeing along with a friend that day. The tragic sequence was recorded on camera as his friend was shooting while he was performing. In the video, Sharath was seen standing at the edge of a rock near the waterfalls and within seconds, he slipped into the falls and was washed away by the heavy flow of water.
Rescue teams including the Kollur police, Fire personnel, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), swimmer Eshwar Malpe, rock climber Koti Raj and local residents made continuous efforts to trace the body of Sharath Kumar for the last one week.
A drone camera was also used in the search operation. Incessant rains hindered the operation though. The body was found between the rocks 200 meters away from the waterfalls around 10.30 am on Sunday.
A case was registered at the Kollur Police Station. After this tragic incident, the district administration has banned taking selfies, photos and videos at tourist destinations during the rainy season.
