Rs 18-crore worth drugs seized by Bengaluru cops in July

Bengaluru: Continuing its special drive initiated as a part of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the city police here filed 375 cases against drug peddlers and consumers, while recovering 1,785 kilograms of narcotic drugs worth Rs 18 crore in the month of July alone.

Addressing a press conference on Monday, Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda, said, "As many as 47 drug peddlers have been arrested, including 13 foreign nationals. Of these, 11 foreigners have been deported back to their nations.

The teams headed by ACP Satish Kumar and ACP Raman Gupta seized 1,700 kg of cannabis, 55 kg of opium, 40 gm of heroin, 500 gm each of charas and cocaine, three kg of Methylenedioxy-Methylamphetamine (MDMA) ecstasy tablets and a large quantity of hashish oil," he said.

The police also conducted a special drive against the sale of tobacco products in and around schools and colleges premises.

At least 45 cases were booked against shops and 32 cases against people caught consuming tobacco products and a fine of Rs 5.9 lakh have been collected from the offenders, the police said.

Further speaking about cybercrime cases, the police chief said that victims of cyber economic offences must report the crime at the earliest preferably within the 'golden hour' for quick detection and recovery of the money they have lost.

Speaking to reporters, the top cop urged the people to promptly report incidents of fraud to the CEN (Cyber Economics & Narcotic Crimes) police stations through the helplines 112 and 1930.
