BJP MP's 'open threat' to Oppn MPs
New Delhi, NT Bureau: During a parliamentary session, Meenakshi Lekhi, the Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture, asked Opposition MPs to keep quiet lest they get a visit from the Enforcement Directorate.
“One minute...keep quiet or else the ED might just come to your home,” she said in the Lok Sabha on Thursday. She was facing interruptions from Opposition MPs while discussing a bill regarding the administration of bureaucrats serving the Delhi government.
The session's chairperson, Rajendra Agrawal, objected to her statement, and Lekhi clarified it was made in jest. However, the Opposition criticised her and viewed them as an "open threat."
They accused the government of misusing central agencies. NCP spokesperson Clyde Crasto pointed out that Lekhi's statement seemed to validate the Opposition's allegations.
