Khandre orders monitoring of defunct borewells
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Karnataka Minister for Forest Ecology and Environment, Eshwara Khandre, has directed the officials of the KSPCB to constantly monitor the defunct borewell points for violations.
The action came after the minister found some of the industries including a few sugar industries, discharging pollutants into the groundwater through defunct borewells.
According to KSPCB, abandoned borewells in rural areas have become an easy target for industrialists to discharge effluents without proper treatment.
"There have been allegations that many are digging deep pits in remote areas and dumping waste and used oil."
