Water scarcity, rat menace drive Gurappanapalya residents crazy

Bengaluru: Gurappanapalya is a residential locality in Bengaluru, Karnataka. It is located in the BTM Layout area of the city and is in ward number 171.

The locality is well-connected by road and public transportation. While the area has several benefits, there are several issues that are plaguing the area.

Gurappanapalya is a densely populated area with a high demand for water. Residents allege that the water supply has been stopped without any warning or notice on several occasions.

This has caused significant inconvenience for residents, who have been caught off guard while showering, using the toilet, or washing dishes.

One IT employee who works from home twice a week said, "It is a huge inconvenience when the water supply stops without warning. If we were informed, we could at least be prepared. But there have been times when I was in the shower and the water just stopped. Or I was washing dishes and the water supply just stopped. It is very frustrating."

The lack of proper garbage disposal by residents has led to piles of garbage collecting on the sides of roads and open drains in some streets. This has created an ideal breeding ground for rats.

Rats are a severe health hazard. They can carry diseases that can spread to humans. Residents have complained that the rat menace is causing them a major expense and inconvenience.

They have had to pay for repairs to damaged property, and they have also had to deal with the health risks associated with rats.

This neighbourhood is characterised by its high population density, exacerbating the scarcity of adequate parking facilities to accommodate all vehicles. The locality's overpopulation has led to the construction of numerous residential and commercial structures in close proximity to one another, resulting in significant encroachment onto the roads.

With a staggering 50 or more residents often inhabiting a single building, families possessing multiple vehicles, whether two-wheelers or four-wheelers, find themselves bereft of suitable parking spaces.

Consequently, these residents resort to parking their vehicles along the roadside. The situation is exacerbated by the already narrow streets, which are further constricted by encroachments from both residential and commercial structures.

This unfortunate convergence of factors has rendered it virtually impossible for larger vehicles to navigate through the area unimpeded. The roads in Gurappanapalya are in a state of disrepair.

Potholes are a common sight, and they can cause damage to vehicles and make it difficult for pedestrians to walk safely. The potholes are caused by a number of factors, including poor construction, inadequate drainage, and heavy traffic.

The government has been slow to fix the potholes, and this has caused widespread frustration among residents. The locality does not have a proper waste management system, and this leads to piles of garbage accumulating on the streets.

In addition to the lack of a proper waste management system, there is also a problem with garbage segregation in Gurappanapalya. The garbage is not segregated into wet and dry waste, as they are supposed to be.

Several residents complain that even if they give the garbage segregated from their household, it is mixed by the person who collects the garbage. Gurappanapalya is a rapidly growing area, and the population is increasing at a rate that is faster than the infrastructure can support.

This leads to a number of problems, including traffic congestion, lack of parking spaces, and inadequate waste disposal facilities.

The overpopulation problem is exacerbated by the fact that the locality is a densely populated area with a lot of garbage.
