Bengaluru: Passengers traveling in a private bus had a close shave when a tusker chased the bus for some distance near Ponnachi in Hanur taluk in Chamarajanagar district.
Around 6:30 am on Monday, a private bus was on its way to Ponnachi from Kollegal when pasengers saw a bull elephant on the road.
Seeing the tusker, the bus driver stopped the vehicle at a distance. The jumbo stared at the bus for a while and then started chasing it.
The bus driver drove the bus in the reverse direction for some distance to escape the tusker and stopped.
After a while, the pachyderm disappeared into the forests. The video of the jumbo chasing the bus has gone viral on social media with people appreciating the driver’s alertness.
Of late, the menace of wild elephants has increased in villages surrounding Ponnachi with the jumbos entering the highway and holding up traffic.
Karnataka Forest Department officials have plans to launch an operation to nab the pachyderms this week.
