Bengaluru: The son of a former corporator was found dead at his house in Chandra Layout Police Station limits on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Gautham, 29, son of ex-corporator Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), Attiguppe ward, Doddaiah, popularly known as Doddanna around the area.
Doddanna, a Congress leader, was a corporator between 2010 and 2015.
The incident took a political turn when rumours were spread on social media with misleading claims that Gautham had undertaken contract works for the BBMP and had committed suicide over unpaid bills.
Speaking to News Trail, Gautham's uncle Anand refuted the claims on social media and said that his nephew was under depression for the past few days and was not speaking to anyone.
"Gautham was not a contractor and the claims are false. We were in search of a bride to get him married as we had observed that he was under depression. We tried our best to ask him for the reason for his state, but he never revealed it," Anand added.
According to sources, Gautham was found hanging inside his room by a relative who went to call him for lunch.
Later in the day, other relatives who visited the house also confirmed that Gautham ended his life over personal reasons.
Some people belonging to political parties might have attempted to take advantage of his death for their cheap propaganda, they added.
