Have ordered stadium relocation: Shivakumar

Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar on Saturday said that he has ordered a stadium that was to come up in Shivaram Karanth Layout to be relocated within the area. He said that the current location wasn’t fit for a large stadium.

“There is a stadium that was supposed to come up here along the lines of Kanteerava and cricket stadium (Chinnaswamy). The plan had been for it to come up here. I’m not convinced about the location. The road here is small. I’ve told them there should be 65 metres of space by the side of the road. So I have asked them to relocate the stadium to such a place. In the future, it (stadium) must be right next to the metro station that will come up in the area,” Shivakumar said, adding that the stadium would take up anywhere between 25 to 45 acre.

The Shivaram Karanth Layout has been mired in conspiracy as about 3,000 acres of land was acquired from 17 villages amid protests by those who had lost their land.

Shivakumar on Saturday said that adequate compensation would be given to farmers “as per the Supreme Court’s directives.”
