Distressed woman kills herself, son

Bengaluru: In a heart-wrenching incident that has left the community in shock, a woman grappling with mental distress following her husband's demise two years ago, took her life along with that of her young child by drowning in Sakalwara lake in Bannerghatta Police Station limits on the outskirts of Bengaluru.

The deceased were identified as Vijayalakshmi, 35, and son Hariharan.

Vijayalakshmi, originally from Andhra Pradesh, had relocated to Bengaluru with her family in pursuit of work opportunities. Settling in CK Palya, she suffered a devastating loss when her husband passed away in an accident two years ago.

Gripped by despair, Vijayalakshmi tied her child to her waist and jumped into Sakalwara lake on the second anniversary of her husband's passing.

After retrieving her body on Sunday, Bannerghatta police initiated an investigation.
