Mysuru: There is disappointing news for those who were planning to add to their collection of sarees during the coming Varamahalakshmi and Gowri-Ganesha festival, as the department concerned has ruled out the sale of Mysore silk saris at a discounted price.
Every year, the Department of Sericulture, under which Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation which manufactures the worldfamous Mysore Silk saris functions, announces a special rebate on the silk saris during Varamahalakshmi, Gowri-Ganesha, Dasara and Deepavali festivals.
Women would throng KSIC showrooms across the country to buy the silk saris at a nominal rate But, this year there would be no discounted sale, confirmed Sericulture and Animal Husbandry departments Minister K.Venkatesh.
According to him, the sale of Mysore silk saris at the regular rates, has been tremendous, so there would be no rebate. The saris are known for their quality.
During the tenure of the Congress-JD(S) coalition government from 2018- 19, then Sericulture Minister Sa.Ra. Mahesh had announced free distribution of silk saris during the festival phase.
Thousands had gathered in front of KSIC showrooms for the saris but the idea was shelved by Mahesh after he came to know about the cost.
