Bengaluru: The state government must immediately stop the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu and apprise the Supreme Court of the ground situation in Kar nataka, said former CM Basavaraj Bommai adding that the interests of farmers should be protected.
In a series of tweets, he said, “Tamil Nadu has used twice as much water for the Kuruvai crop. The area of the Kuruvai crop has expanded four times. The Karnataka government failed to protest on this in the Cauvery Water Monitoring Authority and it is an unforgivable crime to release water immediately after they filed a petition in the Supreme Court,’’ he said.. “ You did not release water to state farmers when they demanded water to save the crops. But now the state government is kind enough to release water daily to Tamil Nadu at the cost of dying crops here”, he said.
“There is no consensus on Cauvery water management in the state and there is no determination to protect our state’s share of water,’’ he added.
