New Delhi: Unacademy, the EdTech company, has ter minated the employment of a teacher whose video went viral.

In the video, the teacher is heard urging students to support educated candidates in the upcoming elections. In the viral video doing the rounds on the Internet Karan Sangwan said, "Remember whenever you vote next time, elect a literate person so you don't face this situation again."

He adds, "Vote for a person who understands things. Make your decisions properly."

The Co-Founder of Unacademy, Roman Saini posted on X, formerly Twitter that, “We are an education platform that is deeply committed to imparting quality education. To do this we have in place a strict Code of Conduct for all our educators to ensure that our learners have access to unbiased knowledge. Our learners are at the centre of everything we do. The classroom is not a place to share personal opinions and views as they can wrongly influence them. In the current situation, we were forced to part ways with Karan Sangwan as he was in breach of the Code of Conduct.”

The ed-tech firm Unacademy is facing criticism on social media platform X under the hashtag #UninstallUnacademy.

Netizens argue that there was nothing wrong with the teacher Karan Sangwan, who simply wanted to promote education. They also believe that Unacademy's decision to fire Sangwan is a denial of his right to freedom of speech (Article 19 of the Indian Constitution).

In response to the termination of the teacher, the Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal posted on his X account, “Is it a crime to appeal to educated people to vote? If someone is illiterate, personally I respect him. But people's representatives cannot be illiterate. This is the era of science and technology. Illiterate public representatives can never build the modern India of the 21st century.”
