Didn’t release water to please allies: DKS
NT Correspondent
Bengaluru: The row over the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu continued to rage on Friday as Deputy CM DK Shivakumar defended the State government as it had to comply with the order of the Supreme Court (SC) and demands of the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA).
Shivakumar sought to make it clear that the decision to release more than 9,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu was based in law and not politics.
JD(S) legislature party leader HD Kumaraswamy on the other hand continued to fume reiterating the claim that Congress was releasing the water to please its pan-India Opposition alliance partner DMK.
“We have not released water for the sake of any alliance partner. We have released the water to respect the court. Ultimately, we have to protect our farmers also. That is why we have appealed to the authority (CWMA) to please modify the order,” Shivakumar told mediapersons, referring to the appeal by the State to reconsider their order.
He added he could extricate documents that showed erstwhile united Janata Dal, JD(S) and BJP governments releasing Cauvery water to TN.
