Woman booked for attempting suicide

Bengaluru: In a shocking incident, a 23-year old woman attempted suicide by consuming a fruit juice laced with rat poison outside a police station in the city.

The incident took place on August 14 a few meters away from the police station in Roopena Agrahara. The woman is said to be working as a Customer Support for a private firm in the city.

According to sources, the woman, a resident of Garebhavipalya and a native of Davanagere, was in a relationship with her colleague, Harshvardhan for over an year now.

He was working as a Quality Analyst in the same firm. However the accused went back on his promise to marry her when he found that the victim was pregnant.

He also allegedly forced her to abort. In July, the woman approached Bommanahalli Police Station and filed a complaint against him. But the accused had fled the city.

The police tracked the accused and arrested him on August 14, the sources said. The woman, hopeful of convincing him to marry her, went to the police station. When the accused still refused to agree to the marriage, the woman went to a nearby juice shop.

She mixed poison in her juice and drank it. A few passers-by shifted the woman to the hospital. Following treatment, the woman has been discharged from the hospital and her statement was recorded.

A senior police official said that they have booked the woman for attempting suicide. Further, the woman withdrew her complaint against the accused.
