Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday warned that Gram Panchayat (GP) CEOs would henceforth be held responsible for deaths resulting from consumption of contaminated water and be suspended over the same.
“If cases of deaths due to contaminated water recur, GP CEOs will be held directly responsible and suspended. Moreover, action will be taken against municipal commissioners,” Siddaramaiah said.
He pointed out that there had been some 14 deaths due consumption of contaminated water in the state in recent times.
As many as seven of them died in Kavadigarahatti village of Chitradurga district earlier in the month.
The Chief Minister said that officials should pay special attention to the low income neighbourhoods to ensure that pipelines carrying sewage and drinking water are not in proximity to each other, adding that local level reports on the same subject must be submitted within 15 days.
