Stop water to TN, AAP tells state govt

Mysuru: Aam Aadmi Party Karnataka unit weighed in on the Cauvery river water sharing issue with Tamil Nadu, demanding that the release of water be stopped altogether since Karnataka was facing drought-like conditions.
“The state is facing drought due to lack of rain. In this situation, the Congress government should stop releasing Cauvery river water,” AAP state president Mukhyamantri Chandru said.
Chandru took offence to AAP not being invited to the all-party meeting held on Cauvery, Krishna and Mahadayi at the Vidhana Soudha.
The fledgling party organized a protest at Gun House Circle in Mysuru city in association with the Union of State Farmers’ Organizations on Wednesday.
Party workers also besieged the office of the Chief Engineer of the Cauvery Irrigation Corporation.
“Even though there is a drought in the state, the State government has failed to convince the SC of the fact that it will not be able to release water during the crisis. We will not tolerate violation of the interests of the state’s farmers by the state government,” Chandru added.
