
Gang of saree thieves nabbed
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: The city police nabbed a gang of seven for allegedly stealing expensive silk sarees by targeting showrooms and boutiques in the city.
The accused were identified as Sunitha, Mattapathi Rani, Ratna Velu, Thannir Shivakumar, Shivaram Prasad, Venkatesh and Bharath.
According to police, the gang actually consists of 11 people and a search is on to nab the absconding accused. It has been revealed that the gang hailed from Andhra Pradesh but operated in Bengaluru.
Two separate complaints have been filed against the accused at Ashok Nagar and High Grounds police stations in Bengaluru following which the police nabbed them.
According to police, the gang would enter a showroom pretending to buy grand silk sarees for a wedding. They would claim that they wanted to purchase them in bulk for all of their family members.
The accused would divert the attention of the salesmen while selecting from a heap of 50-60 sarees and steal expensive sarees from them.
Police retrieved footage from CCTV cameras installed at some showrooms, which helped in identifying the accused.
