TN man arrested for creating fake X account of B’luru police
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: A person hailing from Tamil Nadu was booked for creating a fake account resembling that of the Bengaluru Police on social media platform X, officials said on Wednesday.
The action was taken following a probe into an FIR registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Bengaluru on April 28.
According to officials of the Central Crime Branch (CCB), the suspect Magesh Kumar, 19, had created the X account "@BlrCityPolicee" to resemble the @BlrCityPolice which is the official account of the Bengaluru police.
It was found that the accused was misusing the account by spoiling the name of the state police by tweeting cricket match scores.
Sources from the police said that the accused is a medical student and an avid fan of the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket matches, especially the RCB Bengaluru team.
The youth had impersonated the Bengaluru Police on social media to get more views on his posts. An officer from the Cyber Crime wing first noticed the fake account and informed the CCB about it.
The CCB officials formed a special team who used the available technology to track and arrest Kumar from Chetpet in Tiruvannamalai district.
The police said that Kumar has been booked under sections 66C and 66D of the Information Technology (IT) Act and 419 of the IPC.
