Child killed in wild animal attack: Anger against forest department mounts
NT Correspondent
Chamarajanagar: In a heart-wrenching incident, a young girl lost her life after being attacked by an unidentified wild animal in Yariyur village in Yelandur taluk of the district.
The victim, identified as Rukmini (3), was playing in the garden 15 days ago when she fell victim to the wild animal’s assault and suffered a severe bite on her head.
The girl sustained critical injuries and was admitted to a hospital. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries late on Wednesday night.
In a distressing turn of events, forest department officials neither visited the child’s residence nor paid heed to their pleas, even as the family staged a protest by placing the child’s lifeless body in front of the Yelandur range forest office on Thursday.
They demanded the presence of the BRT DCF at the site. The family has accused the authorities of negligence, asserting that the child’s death is a result of their inaction.
The area was fraught with tension as local people expressed their frustration through vocal protests directed at both the local representatives and the DCF. The police have deployed personnel to maintain order.
