Priority given to tank and lake filling, barrage construction: Minor Irrigation Minister

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Minister for Minor Irrigation, Science, and Technology NS Bose Raju on Thursday directed officials to accord priority to the filling of tanks and lakes, as well as the construction of barrages, in the best interests of people and farmers.

Bose Raju reviewed the progress of the Minor Irrigation and Groundwater Department at his office in Vikasa Soudha.

He instructed officials to formulate a time-bound action plan to overcome hurdles and promptly complete pending tasks.

The Minister underscored the importance of farmer-friendly initiatives, particularly the construction of barrages and the rejuvenation of tanks and lakes, as these projects would contribute to groundwater recharge.

Bose Raju also directed officials to furnish monthly progress reports to both the ministry and the department’s Secretary. Furthermore, he urged Chief Engineers to conduct regular review meetings at the taluk level and make on-site visits to project locations.

The review meeting was attended by Minor Irrigation Secretary Yathishchandra, Chief Engineers of Groundwater North and South Zones, and other senior officials.
