Bengaluru: An individual died, while two others sustained injuries in an explosion caused by a leaking LPG cylinder on the ground floor of a hotel in CL Layout, Adugodi, on Thursday morning.

The deceased was identified as Ravi, 45, a destitute man who was sleeping on the footpath.

The injured individuals, Nagaraj and Ramaiah, are currently receiving treatment at St. John's Hospital in Bengaluru.

They were reported to be the hotel staff. Police investigations revealed that the explosion took place in the basement, a small room measuring 8x8 feet with inadequate ventilation, where more than 12 LPG cylinders were stored.

The explosion was suspected to have been triggered by a leakage from the hosepipe. Fortunately, no cylinders detonated, limiting the extent of the damage, according to the police.

Subsequent information indicated that the hotel staff attempted to check the leak and inadvertently ignited the fire, leading to the explosion. The loud blast caused panic among several residents in the vicinity.

The hotel's shutter was torn apart, and Ravi, who was sleeping on the footpath, was killed on the spot. The police, along with personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services, managed to extinguish the fire.

The Adugodi police have filed a case of death due to negligence against the hotel owner, and further investigation is currently underway
