Intrastate migration: Bengaluru top destination

Bengaluru: Bengaluru, the capital city of Karnataka, which is also called the Silicon City, is the top destination in the State in terms of intrastate migration.

According to Independent Observer Raj Bhagat, and based on the 2011 census, 7 of the top 10 intrastate migration routes in Karnataka have Bengaluru as the destination.

Karnataka has a population of over 60 million people and is home to a diverse range of cultures and languages, and its economy is growing rapidly.

This has led to a high level of intrastate migration, with people moving from rural areas to urban centres in search of better opportunities. However, the other major destinations for intrastate migrants are Mysuru, Hubballi-Dharwad, and Mangaluru, according to the map of the Independent Observer.

Apart from being home to a large number of IT and other industries, and better job opportunities than rural areas, the other factors that drive the migration include education, marriage and family ties.

The influx of migrants to Bengaluru has doubled its population in the past two decades, and it is now facing several challenges, including traffic congestion, water shortages and pollution.

Despite the challenges, Bengaluru remains a magnet for intrastate migrants. The city offers a better quality of life than rural areas, and has a vibrant economy that is growing rapidly.

Three of the top ten intrastate migration routes in Karnataka are Bidar to Tumakuru with 3,23,806 people, Hassan to Bengaluru Urban with 1,58,101 people and Kalaburagi to Bengaluru Urban with 1,52,288 people, followed by the other parts of the State.
