Discourage bail to crime accused, Siddu tells lawyers

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has asked lawyers to discourage bail to accused persons in criminal cases.

A former advocate himself, he asked lawyers, especially government-appointed ones, to restore people’s faith in the legal system.

The CM made the remarks at the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru during a talk on the Karnataka Litigation Management Act, which was held under the aegis of the Department of Law, Justice, Human Rights and Parliamentary Reforms.

“Extended dates should not be sought in cases unnecessarily and they should be dealt with in a timely manner. Granting of bail to the accused should be effectively discouraged. Your merit will be learned from that,” Siddaramaiah said.

The CM added that it was an immense privilege to represent the government in the courts and that the job should be pursued professionally, lest the sitting government get a bad name.

Siddraamaiah said that everyone is equal in the eyes of the law, adding that pursuing people’s interests was as good as ensuring the government’s interest.

Deputy CM DK shivakumar, Law Minister HK Patil and others were present during the talk.
