Cauvery: State to appeal against order

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Tuesday confirmed that Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) had asked Karnataka to release 5,000 cusecs of water daily to Tamil Nadu for the next 15 days, adding that the same would be appealed against.

Shivakumar said that in the meeting Tamil Nadu had begun by demanding that 24,000 cusecs daily be released for 10 days. However, CWRC made a relatively modest demand of 7,200 daily in the same time period.

When Karnataka pointed out that the same would be difficult to accommodate, CWRC amended the demand and asked that daily 5,000 cusecs be released in 15 days (Tuesday to September 12).
