ST Somashekar attends launch of Cong’s Gruha Lakshmi scheme
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: As speculation continues to loom large over BJP Yeshwanthpur MLA ST Somashekar’s return to the Congress, the leader attended the launch of the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, one of the Congress party’s poll promises, in his constituency.
The ruling Congress party officially launched the scheme, which will empower women in the state and provide Rs 2000 monthly to those from Below Poverty Line families who head the family.
By attending the event, Somasekhar further added fuel to speculation on his future moves. Addressing reporters, he said he attended the launch as an MLA of the constituency and wanted to help people.
“There are 94000 BPL card holders in my constituency and officials have told me that only 24,000 have been registered so far. I aim to help people of my constituency and create awareness about the government facilities”, he said.
The developments come after he had appreciated the Congress government’s scheme even while being in the BJP. In a recent move, the BJP has also released a book alleging a hundred mistakes by the Congress as the grand old party completed a hundred days in office the state.
Somasekhar is one of the disgruntled BJP leaders in Karnataka after the defeat of the party in the recent assembly election.
He defected to the BJP from the Congress in 2019, leading to the collapse of the JD(S)-Congress coalition government.
