All polls at once rejected before: Shivakumar
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said that he wasn’t sure about the idea of ‘one election, one election’, adding that the plan had been held unfavourable by leaders across party lines in the past.
He was responding to a query about the former President Ramnath Kovind being named the head of the committee whose main objective is to see if the idea of all provincial polls and general elections can he held at the same time.
“In various states, elections have different times. There had been discussion on this within the Law Commission. Various leaders had been invited from different political parties. They (leaders) had given their opinion and it (the idea of one nation, one election) failed,” Shivakumar said, adding that the All India Congress Committee (AICC) had failed.
The Deputy CM said he didn’t want to comment on a former President in Kovind heading the commission since it would be imprudent.
