BMRCL’s Purple line set for full operation by Sept 15

Bengaluru: The complete Purple Line of the Bengaluru Metro, stretching from Whitefield to Challaghatta, is expected to become fully operational by September 15, as confirmed by the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).

The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) is scheduled to inspect the two newly constructed metro lines, likely on September 11 and 12, according to BMRCL officials.

BMRCL MD Anjum Parwez mentioned, "We have received certain inquiries from CMRS, and we will provide responses by September 7. We have urged them to expedite the inspection of the Byappanahalli-KR Pura (2.1km) and KengeriChallaghatta (2 km) Metro segments. We are optimistic that all outstanding work, in coordination with the CMRS inspection, will be completed by September 15," as per media reports.

In the meantime, all construction activities at Benniganahalli, the sole metro station between Baiyappanahalli and KR Pura, have been finished, according to BL Yashavanth Chavan, Chief Public Relations Officer at Namma Metro.

Upon receiving approval from CMRS, BMRCL will be able to commence commercial operations from Whitefield to Challaghatta. Media reports have stated the potential inauguration of the Byappanahalli-KR Pura and Kengeri-Challaghatta Metro sections on Ganesh Chaturthi (September 18).

Chavan remarked, "From BMRCL's perspective, we will be prepared to initiate commercial operations anytime after September 15. Nevertheless, the inauguration date will be decided after consultations with the Union and state governments."
