Bengaluru: In yet another double murder case in the city, the bodies of a motherson duo were discovered at a house in Ravindranagar on Wednesday.
According to the Bagalagunte Police, the murders might have occurred on the previous night but were discovered in the early hours of Wednesday.
The deceased have been identified as Navaneetha, 34, and her son Sai Surjan, 8. Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman hailed from Andhra Pradesh and had worked at a call center before marrying a person named Chandru.
The couple shifted to Bengaluru and had a son Sai Surjan. The boy was studying in third standard at a private school in the city.
However, it was also revealed that the couple had separated two years ago, after which the woman started living with her son in a rented house in Ravindranagar, within the Bagalagunte Police Station limits, while Chandru was living separately. Speaking to News Trail, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru North Division, Shivaprakash Devaraj said, "On Tuesday midnight, the police were alerted about the murders after someone from the scene called the helpline number 112. Based on a complaint filed by the deceased woman's mother, a case has been registered at the jurisdictional police station."
Sources from the Bagalagunte police stated that the boy appears to have been strangled to death, whereas his mother, Navaneetha, was found with a cut on her throat. Both bodies were discovered on the bed.
While no arrests have been made so far, the police suspect Navaneetha’s estranged husband, Chandru, to be behind the crime. A search is underway to locate him.
The police are also collecting information about who may have visited the victims’ house on the day of the incident.
"We have some suspects, and we have set up a special team under an ACP and have launched an investigation. Further investigation is underway," DCP Devaraj added.
