Distribution must to ensure equality, says CM

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday stressed on the importance of equitable distribution as a means of promoting social and economic inequality.

“Social and economic inequality has continued to exist as the country's wealth and production are accumulating in the hands of a few individuals,” Siddaramaiah said.

“Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar said that if the country's freedom is not formed on a social and economic basis, the goal of freedom will not be fulfilled. Thus, if the goal of freedom is to be fulfilled, an equal society should be built with equal distribution of opportunity and wealth in society,” he added.

The CM made the remarks at the book release programme held by Kamala Hampana Sahitya Vedike at Gandhi Bhavan, where he released three books namely 'Beleku Bittidavaru', 'Prakrita Katha Sahitya' and 'The journey of life' books.

Siddaramaiah added that caste as an institution threatened equality and merited abolition.

“An equal society cannot be built without the abolition of caste. Inter-caste marriage is the first step towards annihilation of caste,” he said.

He praised the couple Hampa Nagarajaiah and Kamala Hampana, who had an inter-caste marriage themselves and also married their three children outside the caste.

“Love between human beings is dharma (faith). Hate is adharma (anti-thesis of faith),” he added.

Writer Baraguru Ramachandrappa spoke about the literary works in the programme which was presided over by Hampa Nagarajaiah. Writer GN Mohan and Kamala Hampana were also present on the occasion
