3 arrested for kidnapping businessman for ransom

Bengaluru: In a swift action, the Chenammana Kere Achukattu police have arrested three accused for allegedly kidnapping a businessman for a ransom of Rs 20 lakh.
According to sources from police, the main accused is a rowdy sheeter, while the two were his associates.
Speaking to News Trail, the police said the accused had kidnapped the businessman to obtain the ransom money with which they had planned to fight cases pending against them.
The main accused was identified by the police as Arun Kumar, a rowdy sheeter, while Somashekhar and Kiran Kumar, had aided him in the kidnapping.
It was revealed that the victim, Sandeep Kumar, 32, was known to the accused. According to a complaint filed by the victim, the accused called him over mobile phone on August 30 and asked him to meet them outside his apartment.
On the pretext of having lunch, the three men took the victim in their car. The victim alleged that the trio snatched his mobile phone and turned it off.
They also took the SIM card and threw it out of the running vehicle, he stated. The accused allegedly abused Sandeep and demanded Rs 20 lakh from him.
They then took him to a farmhouse in Denkanikottai of Tamil Nadu and tortured and assaulted him with wooden sticks for ransom. However, Sandeep managed to escape from the farmhouse and with the help of the Tamil Nadu police, he reached the city and filed a complaint with the CK Achukattu Police Station in Bengaluru.
Based on the complaint, the police launched a manhunt for the accused and on a tip-off, nabbed them on September 5 around 2 am from a dhaba in Mandya district.
The accused alleged that they had a financial row with the victim and hence kidnapped him to recover the money, said sources from police adding that another accomplice who had helped them in the crime has been absconding and further efforts are on to nab him as well.
