Uber, Ola protests politically motivated: Shivakumar

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Monday wondered aloud whether the protests by cabbies employed by aggregators like Ola and Uber had been politically motivated.

The comments came before the private transporters unions called off their bandh later in the day.

However, the State government is treading a fine line as it tries to placate the unions, even as CM Siddaramaiah termed the demands of compensation by private transporters “impossible” to fulfill.

The private transporters have pointed out that ever since the State government launched its Shakti scheme back in June, their revenues had dipped drastically.

The scheme offers women free travel on most government buses regarded as “non-deluxe”.
