HDK asks State govt to fulfil private transporters’ demands

Bengaluru: JD(S) legislature party leader HD Kumaraswamy called upon the State government to fulfil the demands of the private transport unions. Kumaraswamy took aim at the Congress government, blaming its “unscientific guarantees” for adversely affecting the livelihood of private buses.

He had been referring to the Shakti scheme under which women get free rides in most government buses. The scheme had been launched in June.

Kumaraswamy insisted that it was the moral responsibility of Siddaramaiah and Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy to call the unions’ representatives and find a solution since the latter’s plight was down to the guarantees.

“The government should keep aside their pride and consider the demands of the private transport unions with a sense of humanity. Their demands are not impossible to meet. The government should not forget that they also have families, including fathers, mothers and children,” Kumaraswamy said.

“My demand is that they walk the talk and provide a solution to the lives affected by the guarantees,” he added.
