Bengaluru: Sep 14 was National Cream Filled Donut Day. It is considered a delightful celebration of one of the most beloved pastries in the world.

With a rich history dating back to the Dutch colonists of New Amsterdam, the donut has evolved into a culinary delight enjoyed by people all over the globe.

We go back in history, in the 17th century, the precursor to the donut was known as "olykoeks" –balls of baked dough that were sometimes filled with jam. It wasn't until the middle of the 19th century that the round donut with a hole in the middle, as we know it today, was created by ship captain Hansen Gregory.

Meanwhile, the injection of cream into donuts became popular, replacing traditional fruit fillings. Today, creamfilled donuts come in a variety of flavours and are a staple in many bakeries. Indulging in a cream-filled donut has become a morning ritual for many, providing a sweet and satisfying treat to start the day.

In fact, some offices even embrace the tradition of bringing donuts to work to boost morale and put a smile on their colleagues' faces. India, in particular, is experiencing a growing love for creamfilled donuts, with brands like Kaffee Berliner and TFG Café serving up these modern delights.

Zafir Syed, a food content creator and marketing lead at The Blend Community, shares that cream-filled donuts are going viral among Indians, with an average consumption of 800-900 donuts per day.

Internationally, some of the most delectable cream-filled donuts can be found in Italy, such as Bomboloni and Berliners. Syed personally recommends trying these treats at TFG Café and Kaffee Berliner.
