Bengaluru: Pro-Hindutva activist and self-claimed cow vigilante Puneeth Kerehalli was released from the prison after the Karnataka government quashed the Goonda Act registered against him by the city police.
Bengaluru City Police Commissioner had passed an order on August 11 to arrest Kerehalli, 32, under Goonda Act of 1985. The order was approved on August 17. However, the advisory committee opined in its September 13 order that there were no sufficient reasons to keep Puneet in prison.
Accordingly, Bengaluru city police commissioner withdrew the arrest warrant against Puneeth Kerehalli with immediate effect.
Kerehalli was first arrested after he was accused of torturing and killing a cattle trader in Sathanur, Idris Pasha on March 31. Later he continued to post provocative videos on his social media handle until he was arrested by the CCB.
