Self-regulation of TV news channels needs to be tightened: SC
New Delhi, NT Bureau: The Supreme Court, in a recent development, has emphasised the need to strengthen the self-regulatory mechanism for monitoring television news channels, as reported by Live Law.
A bench consisting of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra has given a four-week deadline to the News Broadcasters and Digital Association to present an improved set of self-regulatory guidelines.
This move comes after the Supreme Court expressed its concerns about the effectiveness of the existing mechanism during a previous hearing.
This hearing was related to a petition filed by the broadcasters' body, which challenged certain observations made by the Bombay High Court regarding the self-regulatory mechanism in the media.
