
Malaysia seeks to boost trade ties through the franchise industry

Bengaluru: The Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC) recently facilitated the first trade mission from Malaysia to India since the pandemic.
The delegation was led by Senator Fuziah Salleh, Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) in the Malaysian government.
The mission was aimed at promoting Malaysian franchise brands in India and offering a platform for Indian franchise brands to invest in Malaysia. Senator Fuziah Salleh highlighted the significant opportunities for trade between India and Malaysia.
She noted that the Malaysian government has introduced a number of initiatives to make franchising more affordable and accessible. Dr S Devarajan, President of BCIC, emphasised the strong trade ties between India and Malaysia.
He noted that Malaysia is the third largest trading partner for India in the ASEAN region, with bilateral trade amounting to USD 9.4 billion in 2021-22.
