Delayed compensation: Woman attempts suicide

Malur, NT Bureau: Upset over the delay in getting compensation for the land acquired by authorities for construction of Bengaluru-Chennai Express Highway, a farmer woman tried to commit suicide by consuming poison in the presence of Malur Tahasildar K Ramesh.

The incident took place at Chikka Sabbenahalli when the farmer Narayanaswamy and his family members opposed the move by the authorities to clear the land for road construction.

The family said that there was delay in awarding suitable compensation for two acres of land.

On being informed, Ramesh, Tahasildar, Malur rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the family saying the delay was because there was some ‘podi’ issue pertaining to the land.

Despite this, Narayanaswamy’s twenty five year old daughter Pooja tried to consume poison.
