Cyber tip from top cop: Beware of biometric scam!
Bengaluru, NT Bureau: In his latest 'Cyber Tip' on Friday, the City Police Commissioner advised the citizens to safeguard their Aadhaar details to avoid falling into a 'Biometric Scam.'
"Generally when people buy SIM cards or deal properties such as land, they are liable to verify the biometric which includes their fingerprint and signature, through Aadhaar cards," Bengaluru Commissioner of Police B Dayananda said.
Many people especially from the rural districts are still unaware that if these biometric details fall into the hands of miscreants, it can pose a huge risk to the privacy of the Aadhaar card holders.
The biometrics can be cloned by cyber fraudsters who can subsequently siphon funds from the victims' bank accounts.
"The fraudsters use biometrics for authentications to steal money from the bank accounts of their victims bypassing all PINs, OTPs and passwords," the top cop said.
The Aadhaar biometric was launched to safeguards the personal details of the people. However this system is currently misused by miscreants to rob people of their money.
"To avoid these scams, the citizens are advised not to share Aadhaar details with unauthorised or unknown parties. Further the citizens must also lock their profiles and details using the settings provided in the UIDAI website or the M-Aadhaar mobile app," he said while also adding that it is important for the people to keep bank statements and transactions in check.
