Bengaluru: The City Police Commissioner will now reach out to the citizens, especially those belonging to the vulnerable section of society, to educate them about their legal rights and how they can act against the perpetrators.

"Basic awareness is must for every responsible citizen," Bengaluru top cop B Dayananda tweeted on Sunday while requesting the citizens to actively participate and engage in a radio program, Patala Garudi, a crime awareness series which is being launched by Akashvani on Monday.

Akashvani- Bengaluru said that the series will be broadcasted on every Monday starting from September 25.

"The program will be aired every Monday night from 10:30 pm to 11:30 pm. Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda will be featured in the first episode on Monday," Akashvani said.

With chain snatchings, house break-ins, vehicle thefts, road rage cases etc becoming the order of the day in the city, the police have held various public meetings to spread awareness among citizens.

Recently the city top cop had initiated "A cyber tip a day, keeps the fraudsters away," a campaign to raise awareness regarding cyber crime cases. In order to check the cybercrimes, the police have been enlightening people on how to avoid landing in the trap of cyber-stalkers and fraudsters.

"Efforts will be made to reach out to people of all age groups. Issues related to crime and traffic will be discussed and solutions will be provided during the program," the top cop said.

It is a matter of concern that in most situations, the victims facing harassment such as domestic violence, eve-teasing, molestation or cyber crime, lose control over their emotions and sometimes take extreme steps that affect their family and people connected to them.

The city police commissioner said that there is a need to make them aware that help is available. "The program will focus on raising awareness regarding crime and how to report it, and how to reach the police for help and support. I request the people to participate in this program," he added.
