Girl accidentally falls into canal, swept away

Hassan: In a tragic incident, a five-year-old girl child drowned in a canal at Madhuranahalli in Arkalgud taluk here on Friday.

The girl was identified as Supreetha, daughter of Revanna and Bhagya, residents of the same village. According to sources, the girl, along with some friends, had gone to the canal near the village as schools were closed in view of the Karnataka bandh.

While she was playing with her friends, she lost her balance and fell into the canal. She was immediately swept away in the flowing water.

Water had been released in the Harangi right bank canal to join the Cauvery river and the water level was quite high.

The Fire and Emergency Services personnel on Friday initiated a search for the girl along the canal.
