Bengaluru's tryst with Kambala this Nov 25-26

Bengaluru: Bengaluru has finally got its date for its maiden Kambala, the traditional event celebrated in Dakshina Kannada: November 25 and 26, here in the Palace Grounds.

After deliberation with officials and owners of buffaloes, Ashok Kumar Rai, the MLA of Puttur has announced the date, at a press conference here on Saturday.

Big names like Chief Minister Siddaramiah, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, Rajnikanth, Aishwariya are expected to felicitate the event, along with other actors from Sandalwood and Bollywood.

The event will witness more than 130 pairs of "Kona'' buffaloes from districts including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Kasaragod(Kerala), and their owners have agreed to participate in the event. Addressing the press here, Ashok Kumar ensured that the measures are being undertaken for both the buffalo riders and the audience.

"We have arranged escorts for these buffaloes to be transported. Animal ambulances and veterinary doctors will be present with them," he said.

A 145-metre long carpet, which is said to cost an Rs. 26 crore, will be laid by the organisers.

"A gallery which will house 15,000 people will also be set," Rai added.

Along with this, more than 150 stalls will be set, which will feature food from Coastal Karnataka, along with local handicrafts. The organisers expect a crowd of 7-8 lakh to witness this exquisite event.

"Kambala will be held with the Supreme court directive in mind," he added. Ashok Kumar Rai also called for government support for this event. He had also pointed out that this event will propel Kambala to world fame.

Dakshina Kannada Kambala Samiti President Deviprasad Shetty, Kambala Samiti office bearers Rohit Hegde, Barkur Shantarama Shetty, Lokesh Shetty, Chandra Hasa Sanil, Muralidhara Rai, Vijayakumar Jain were present in the press conference.
